My third day at TISKL started when I first reached to school at 7.15a.m and proceeded to sign my sign-in sheet as a recognition to me being presence in the school compound. I walked into class and did my usual routine of keeping my belongings at the back of the classroom and proceed to welcome parents and students with a "Good Morning" greeting and assisting them to keep the students bags and their lunchboxes in their respective place. Ms’ Keren begin her class once all her students were well settled in their places. The first subject of the day was English, and Ms’ Keren introduced them to the Fairy-tale literature called "Little Red Riding Hood". The whole lesson was conducted about the settings and the theme of the story. Ms’ Keren showed the students a short video about the tale and got them to write their individual twist in the plot of the story using their English book. It was really interesting to see that individual students had different twist for their version of the Fairy-tale. The next lesson was on Science, and Ms’ Keren taught the kids about plants and what are the important factors to consider when planting a seed to grow it into a plant. Ms’ Keren showed the class a video on how photosynthesis took place in a plant's body. Afterwards, Ms’ Keren asked the students to take out the green peas, container and cotton buds that she had instructed them to bring to bring for this week's lesson. She asked the students to place the seeds on the wet cotton buds which was placed inside the container. Once the students were done doing that I and Krissie help assist the students to place their container facing the windows of the classroom. I learned that hands-on experience is really important especially for children in their early ages because it contributes a lot to meaningful learning experience. The entire day Ms’ Keren conducted various activities that had the students to be on a constant move in the classroom. The students enjoyed the lessons conducted on that day as it embedded a lot of group work and the students felt more engaged with Ms’ Keren and us.
The day later on proceeded with the usual lunch routine, whereby me and Krissie was responsible to take the students down to the canteen and supervise them until the lunch break was over. After the lunch break there was a short meeting about the weekly lesson plan with the Year Leader, Mr’ Victor and as well as the other teachers of year 3. This meeting is essential on a weekly basis because it allows all the teachers to brain-storm and plan their lessons for the week for each subjects that they are responsible to teach in class. During the meeting all the teachers aligned and discuss about the worksheet that they will provide for their class for the week. Classroom management skills was also mentioned by Mr’ Victor as it is essential to remind the teachers to use positive communication with the students. Moreover, once the meeting was done Ms’ Keren gave us the instruction to hand out the worksheets for the week to every class of year three. Before we handed the worksheets to the respective classes, me and Krissie helped cut out the worksheet properly so that the students can paste them all in their workbook neatly. Once the distribution was done to all the respective classes, we commenced back to our duties as student-teachers assisting Ms’ Keren and the students during the few lessons before school ends for the day. Lastly, when the schooling period came to an end for the day, me and Krissie marked all the homework of the students and once we were done Ms’ Keren gave us the permission to leave the premise of the school. When we leave, we usually sign the sign-in-sign-out attendance list to show that we have arrived and left the school premise.
